
INTERNATIONAL
AWARENESS PROGRAMMES
Being involved in cultural exchange provides a wonderful
opportunity for people of all ages to experience another culture.
In the current climate of adversity, having a program in place
that assists in forming international relationships should
be nurtured and developed into the future.
OBJECTIVES
- To enhance the Japanese cultural awareness of the Australian
students and the Australian cultural awareness of the Japanese
visitor(s).
- To inspire Australian students to study Japanese or other
foreign languages and the Japanese student(s) to study English
and to assist those involved to broaden their outlook on
the world.
- Creation of intercultural bonds of friendship between
the host and visiting schools, Japanese student(s) and his/her/their
host families.

GROUP VISITS

ROLE
OF SHOJI AUSTRALIA
- To liase and organise all aspects of the visit and host
families with the school and the group.
- Hire an English Teacher/Coordinator to be in charge of
the Japanese group for the visit.
- To provide a bilingual 24 hour support and interpreting
service.
- To organise a payment/donation to the school (the school
decides if part of this amount will go to the host families
and, if so, how much).
ROLE OF HOST SCHOOL
- To provide a classroom/teaching area for morning English
classes.
- To provide the opportunity for students to have integrated
classes with local students for some afternoons (Eg. Physical
Education, Art, Language, Cooking etc)
- To provide the opportunity for school families to host
the Japanese students.

- To provide the Japanese student with the opportunity
to join in with the corresponding year class and participate
in the class activities.

N.B This is a culturally based visit so the Japanese student
is not required to sit exams or enrol in the school. Classes
the Japanese student will attend can be arranged in accordance
with the school requirements.
